Leaf Gen 1 ZE0 trim levels and options

The Gen 1 Leaf (ZE0) was manufactured between December 2010 and September 2012. Two trim levels were available - the 'X' and the higher 'G'.

Some options needed to be ordered prior to the car's manufacture, others were available later, to be installed by the dealer.

Prior to options being fitted, there is little difference between a X and a G.

The extra features found on the G that were NOT offered at all on the X are:

  • ASCD ("Automatic Speed Control Device") AKA "Cruise control" so has switches on the right hand side of the steering wheel.
  • 6 Speakers (The X has 4 speakers)
  • ETC unit built-in. ETC is the automatic toll payment system used in Japan. The ETC unit should be disabled or removed when a car is imported into New Zealand because it uses radio frequencies that are not permitted here.
  • A solar cell mounted on the rear spoiler used to keep the 12 volt start battery in a fully charged condition.

The extra features found on the G that can be added to the X by the dealer were:

  • Reversing camera
  • Tonneau cover

The extra dealer-installed options available to both the X and G were:

  • Fog lights
  • Front under protector
  • Side sill protector
  • Rear under protector
  • Illuminated emblem (blue LED)
  • Illuminated rng around fog lights (blue LED)
  • Charging port cover
  • Charging port light
  • Charging cable lock (with 3 keys)
  • Eco-friendly floor mats using plant-derived ingredients
  • Large "zero emission" labels on the side of the car replacing the smaller plastic emblems
  • Repeater blinkers on the side mirrors
  • Dark plastic visors on the doors
  • Colour-coded mudguards
  • Luggage under box
  • Electric retractable neon control (parking assistance wand)

The cold climate option could be added to both the X and G before manufacture:

Both trim levels were offered with side and curtain air bags as standard, with a "delete" option making the base price of the car less - so most purchases opted to delete the extra safety feature to save money.

The easiest way to tell a G-spec Gen1 from an X-spec is to look for the cruise controls on the steering wheel, or the solar panel on the rear spoiler.
